Validation and Conditional Love

Uncategorized Feb 27, 2019

PSA: You have spent your entire life wrapped in validation. Sometimes this is through compliments or actions of a partner; other times this is through an employer; boss or superior, and occasionally this is even through our actions on social media. Now not all validation is bad, praise is a lovely thing to give and to receive. However, the dependency on validation walks a fine line and dabbles more in the negative category than the positive one.

This lesson sometimes has to slap me hard, a few times, before I truly learn anything from it. Take two weeks ago for example…

I was doing average at work and had minimal interactions with the people I love in my life. This all seems fine and dandy, but it made me hyper aware of my deep need for validation. It is an ongoing journey of deciding each and every day that you are going to fall in love with the person you are in this moment. We like to think that once we have achieved a goal, hit that milestone or accomplished something once, we do not have to keep working on it.  But nothing could be further from the truth. Everything worth having in this life is something that must be fought for, over and over.

In order to allow ourselves to be in a state of...
